The sound of little feet pattering in the house, the sound of a baby’s delightful chatter, the BAA from the PEEK- A- BOO….I thought I’d forgotten all that. One look and I was wrapped around her finger.
Baby’s do that to you, specially a daughter, well almost daughter. The baby or the lady in question is my niece…been waiting for a long time. When it comes to someone else’s child, I’m oddly not maternal…I prefer to shower my love on the three boys I have at home. But the feeling of holding part your own blood is awesome.
Since it was her first birthday and I had been allowed to leave home and hearth for a sibling reunion-if only for three days, sweet sister and I decided to do something SPECIAL. Maybe Sanskriti won’t have noticed the cake in all its beauty this time but these pictures will tell a million tales of our love for her.
EXPOSE!
And this picture...Barbie was not stripped…only covered in film.

Barbie Revisited -Happy Birthday Sanskriti
you need
3 Orange Chiffon Cakes
Butter cream Frosting
Royal Icing
Fondant
Tons of love
Same way as the Princess Diaries Barbie Cake. Three cakes stacked one on top of the other with the center cut out…for further instructions…http://baketitude.blogspot.in/2011/10/princess-diaries.html
The cakes in question were the Orange Chiffon Cakes- for further instructions…
We were fresh out of jam, but the butter cream acted as glue.
Frosted and frosting in the fridge...cold!
For the butter cream frosting, I whipped 300 Gms of Amul butter and added 600 Gms of icing sugar. To this I added around 75 mls of orange juice to make the butter cream lighter.
Then this was white fondant which I tinted yellow, blue and green.
The effort was to try and recreate the dress that Sanskriti was to wear for the party.
But polka dots are not that interesting, so we cut out and pasted flowers using the Wilton flower cutters.
These were then pasted on the dress with royal icing_ for further instructions…
Silver balls to further jazz up the dress…again stuck with royal icing.
We left the doll overnight to dry out.http://baketitude.blogspot.in/2011/12/royal-icing.html
Next morning I gave it a wash with a little brush of water…that washed out the dried icing sugar and brought a shine to the dress. Vodka would’ve been better, but many of the guests invited for the party were teetotalers- unfortunately…otherwise Barbie would’ve been HIGH!
I don’t know if Barbie needed it, but a vodka shot would’ve been very welcome…we were up so late gossiping and then the little baby woke up just as we had closed our eyes.
So I was beat, and could not convert this bit of a holiday into a shopping spree. Still, this picture and Sanskriti’s smile was worth the sleepless weekend.
Finally sweet child of mine has a cousin to call his own.
Bless you little baby…
